If something is happening at the University that you think people should know about, this is the way to tell us.
What we are looking for
Documents, mostly. Emails, memoranda, budget lines, policy drafts, meeting materials, directories, contracts. Also first-hand accounts: what was said in a meeting, how a rule was applied, what happened to someone who objected.
You do not need to have the whole story. You do not need to be sure it matters. A single document that seems unremarkable to you may be the piece we have been missing.
How we handle it
- We do not publish your name unless you tell us in writing that we may.
- We verify before we publish. Nothing goes up on the strength of a single unsupported claim.
- We will tell you what we are going to do before we do it, if you have given us a way to reach you.
- We do not hand material to the University and we do not confirm to anyone that you contacted us.
Practical advice before you send anything
Please do not use a UVA email account, a UVA computer, or the University network. Institutional systems are logged, and those logs are not yours. Use a personal device on a personal connection.
If the material is sensitive enough that being identified would cost you your job or your degree, consider posting a paper copy rather than sending a file. Digital documents carry metadata that identifies the machine and the account they came from. Write to us and we will tell you where to send it.
If you would rather not use a form at all, write to info@jeffersoncouncil.org from an address that is not connected to the University.
